SHOUTOUT LA | LOCAL STORIES | MEET ROBERTO CARLOS LEMUS | PHILANTHROPRENEUR

By SHOUTOUT LA

We had the good fortune of connecting with Roberto Carlos Lemus and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Roberto Carlos, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your organization?
Being that Affluent Hispanic Philanthropies is a 501(c)(3) United States-based non-profit organization, our main goal is supporting communities and other non-profits.

Co-founded by Jose Diaz Romero and myself on March 2, 2017 we come together with passionate philanthropreneurs, and aim to make a difference by leading social initiatives and supporting different causes, such as those related to humanitarian acts, education, health, gastronomy, arts and culture.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your organization, can you tell us more?
Our Mission at Affluent Hispanic Philanthropies is to inspire, empower, and promote philanthropy through social integrated platforms with the values of integrity, compassion, and altruism.

Our Vision is that together in partnership with corporate donors, international and local charitable organizations, influential celebrities, brands, and high-profile executives, we aim to promote high social impact projects and ultimately improve the lives of the communities we serve.

And our Values include those of Integrity, Compassion and Altruism. In the world of philanthropy, integrity has come to be associated with transparency in operations and distribution of funds; and while we believe that being good financial stewards is of vital importance, our definition of integrity is even more far reaching.

La filantropía requiere compasión, empatía e intención. Alentamos a las personas a tomar medidas, a involucrar su sentido de empatía y a mostrar la innovación en el sector benéfico.

El altruismo es el cuidado genuino y desinteresado del bienestar de los demás.

Affluent Hispanic Philanthropies has supported the following organizations which we keep a close relationship with:

* AltaMed Foundation
* American Heart Association
* Eva Longoria Foundation
* Ricky Martin Foundation
* Global Gift Foundation USA
* Ford Drive 4 your community
* A Place Called Home
* Hispanic Heritage Foundation
* InClusion ClubHouse
* Phi Sigma Kappa Foundation
* Heal The Bay Foundation
* Providence Cedar-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center
* Dignity Health St. Mary Medical Center

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Having the chance to visit some of the most beautiful places in our state of California I would give my best friend a tour along the coast stopping along some of the most stunning and iconic locations with amazing views. My ideal one week itinerary would be as follow:

Starting up the North Coast of California I would begin by visiting the city of San Francisco where I would make a stop at the following places:

Land Marks
-Golden Gate Bridge
-Alcatraz Island
-Lombard Street
-Golden Gate Park (inside there visit de Young Museum and Japanese Gardens)

Restaurants
– La Mar Cebicheria Peruana by celebrity chef Gaston Acurio
-Fisherman’s Wharf
-The Original Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop

Once we get to see some of the beauty San Francisco has to offer I would drive down through the iconic Red Woods down the cost through Santa Cruz and make a stop for a day or two in the restful city of Monterrey where I would visit the following places:

-Monterey Plaza Hotel
-Take a bike tour though Pebble beach
-Cannery Row

Restaurants
-Schooners Coastal Kitchen & Bar
-Old Fishermen’s Grotto

I would then book a flight from Monterrey airport to Long Beach airport, which is about a 45 minute flight to continue our tour of the California Coast. While in Long Beach I would visit the following places:

-The Queen Marry
-Shoreline Village
-The Peninsula
-Belmont Shore

Restaurants
-Claire’s at the Museum (At the Long Beach Museum of Art)
-San Pedro Fish Market on the Alamitos May Marina
-The Attic
-Obra Bakery
– El Paisa Colombian Restaurant

Since Long Beach is right along Pacific Coast Highway I would drive down to Orange County and make a pit stop in Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach and Dana Point where we would visit the following places:

-Pasea Hotel
-Huntington Beach Pier
-Fashion Island
-Balboa Island
-Bon-fire on the beach at The Hyatt Hotel
-Pirate Tower at Victoria Beach

Restaurants
-Tanner’s at the Pasea Hotel
-Sol Mexican Cocina
-The Beachcomber Cafe

We would continue driving down the coast where there are numerous photo opportunities with stunning ocean views and delicious places for a bite to eat. We would continue our journey driving down to coast to finish in the beautiful cosmopolitan city of San Diego where we would stop at the following iconic landmarks and restaurants:

Land Marks
-Coronado Island
-Little Italy
-Old Town San Diego
-Gaslamp Quarter

Restaurants
-Puesto at the Headquarters
-Dobson’s Restaurant
-Yipao Coffee
-Tom Ham’s Lighthouse
-Sun Deck at the Coronado Hotel

Throughout this adventurous we get to see some of the most iconic and beautiful places California has to offer and we get to meet some of the most exciting group of people that bring so much culture and flavors to our Golden State.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The idea of philanthropy was instilled in me by my maternal grandmother Filomena, who always made it a point to help someone in need. There have been many mentors and people in my life that helped me continue the path of philanthropy, and as a member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity we are educated to live our lives according to the Golden Rule “Do Unto others as you would have them do unto you”. After many years of working and collaborating with non-profit organizations both my husband José and I decided to incorporate our own non-profit organization that would help us make a bigger change in areas such as those related to humanitarian acts, education, health, gastronomy, arts and culture.
